Be the “Script Flipper”

Some moments don’t need a stage or spotlight to change a life.Sometimes, it’s the smallest things—the quiet kindness, the unexpected gesture, the “just thinking of you” text—that flip the whole script.
I call them “script flippers.”They don’t fix everything, but they shift everything. They bring a breath of fresh air into a room that feels suffocating. They remind someone, “You’re seen. You matter. You’re not forgotten.”
I will never forget the script flippers in my own life—those simple messages, surprise visits, or small gestures that were lifelines in some of my darkest days.Cancer and autoimmune disease don’t play fair. They barge in, shake everything up, and steal the sense of normal. But that’s exactly where God brings in the script flippers. The ones who don’t always know what to say—but show up anyway. The ones who bring five minutes of light into a really dark day.
Walking through the journey with my mom—through chemo chairs, hospital rooms, and long nights—I saw firsthand how just a few minutes of normal could change everything. A therapy dog visit. A funny story. A warm blanket. A stranger’s kindness. Those moments kept us going. And honestly? That’s why we began what is now Lisa Bain Ministries over 15 years ago.
Because we wanted to be that five minutes of joy. That one reminder that God still sees you. That love still shows up. That hope still walks in.
Can five minutes really make a difference?
We see it every single day.
A stuffed pup in trembling hands.
A hand-tied quilt across weary shoulders.
A therapy dog curled up beside someone too tired to talk.
None of these change the diagnosis—but they flip the script.
So today:
Be the gift.
You don’t have to fix it.
You just have to care.
You never know who’s hanging on by a thread—and your kindness might be the knot that helps them hold on.
Send the message.
Make the call.
Sit beside the hurting.
Hug longer.
Laugh louder.
Cry if you need to.
Just show up.
Because someone out there is waiting for the script to flip. And maybe… that someone needs you.
Be the script flipper.
