Christmas Eve in the Fog

Dec 24, 2025 | Blog

I took this picture on a walk yesterday, and it stayed with me. The fog was thick, sitting right in front of me. As I walked, it didn’t rush away. It stayed just ahead of me, slowly lifting with each step I took.

I couldn’t see far down the road. I could only see enough to take the next step.

That can feel a lot like life, can’t it?

It’s Christmas Eve, which has a way of holding both beauty and longing. We celebrate hope coming into the world, yet many of us are standing in a fog wondering what’s next. Wondering when things will make sense. Wondering if the road ahead will ever feel clear again.

I’ve learned that God often works one step at a time. He doesn’t always show us the whole picture, not because He’s distant, but because He’s inviting us to trust Him. Faith grows in the fog. Hope deepens when we keep walking, even when we can’t see very far ahead.

As I kept walking that morning, the fog didn’t disappear all at once. But slowly, quietly, it lifted. And before I realized it, I could see more of the road than when I first started.

As I’ve met with people on care deliveries and even in daily conversations, I’ve seen how many have been living in that fog this year. Carrying heavy questions. Whispering prayers in the quiet. Waiting for clarity. Even wondering, “God, are you there? Do you hear me?”

On this Christmas Eve, I want to remind you that God came to us not in full daylight, but in the stillness of the night. Hope entered the world gently. And it still works that way.

As we prepare to step into a new year, I truly believe 2026 will be a year when the fog begins to lift for many. Not all at once. Not without faith. But step by step, as we keep walking forward.

If you’re in a foggy season tonight, don’t stop. Take the next small step. Trust that God is walking with you, even when the road feels unclear. You may not see the footsteps, because He is carrying you through that fog.

The light came into the world. And the light is still coming.

Merry Christmas Eve, friends. May the fog lift, and may hope meet you right where you are.
