Some of my favorite visits are with our senior heroes. Oh, the stories they can tell! They are so rich in history, wisdom, life lessons, and quite honestly, some of the funniest moments ever. There is just something about wisdom mixed with a great sense of humor. You can’t beat it!
We walk into these rooms thinking we’re going to be the blessing, and so many times we walk out realizing we were the ones who were blessed. My heart is always a little fuller, I’m usually inspired by something I heard, and most of the time I’ve laughed a whole lot too.
Every once in a while, I meet someone who has that same kind of spirit and humor my mom had, and this was definitely one of those visits.
We covered a lot of ground in our conversation, but here are a few pieces of wisdom I’m definitely keeping:
“If you can’t remember why you walked into the room, just act like you came in to check on everybody.”
“Keep people around who make you laugh. Life has enough people who make you need blood pressure medicine.”
“If you’re waiting until everything is perfect to enjoy your life, honey, you’re going to be waiting a long time.”
And maybe my favorite:
“Love Jesus, love your people, eat the cake, and mind your own business. That’ll take you pretty far.”
I think she pretty much covered it all.
Love Jesus. Love your people. Laugh every chance you get. Eat the cake. And don’t get so busy worrying about life that you forget to actually live it.
We brought her a Princess Mabel Joy pup, but once again, we were the ones who walked away with the gift.
A little more wisdom. A whole lot of laughter. And a beautiful reminder that every single day is worth living well.
