It’s Not Just a Stuffed Pup: It’s a Gift of Hope

What looks like a simple stuffed pup is actually so much more than it appears. It’s a tangible gift of hope, a symbol of love, and it carries the weight of countless prayers. Each stuffed pup from Lisa Bain Ministries—fashioned in the likeness of our therapy dogs Mabel, Maddie, and Moose—is a handcrafted treasure, often dressed with outfits lovingly sewn by our volunteers. But what truly sets these pups apart isn’t their soft fur or cute clothes and bandana. It’s the prayers that cover each one.

Every pup is prayed over as it’s packed and prepared for its new home. We pray for the recipient—whoever they may be—asking for comfort, healing, courage, and peace to accompany them. And when I receive photos of these well-worn pups, often bearing the marks of countless days, nights, journeys, and adventures, my heart overflows. These little companions are leaving a big impact.

One pup became a source of strength for a little girl undergoing chemo and radiation. Another brought courage to a young boy as he testified against his abuser. One faithful pup helped a child struggling to sleep finally find rest. It journeyed to school every day with another young boy, giving him the bravery to face each class. Another accompanied a young girl through her therapy appointments, offering silent reassurance along the way.

And the stories don’t stop with children. An adult daughter shared how her mother, battling Alzheimer’s, seemed to regain fragments of her old self when she held her pup. “When she holds that pup,” the daughter said, “she remembers things. It’s like Alzheimer’s hasn’t taken most of her mind.”

One of our military pups found its way to a soldier serving overseas. Over months and months of traveling with him, the pup endured its own wear and tear, eventually losing a leg. When I offered to send a replacement, he declined, saying, “Oh no! This pup is with me for the duration. I know I am being prayed for, and every time I see this pup, I know I’ll make it home soon.”

So when I see a worn and well-loved pup, my heart smiles. Each tear-streaked paw and faded outfit tells a story of resilience and hope. For us, it’s a mission accomplished. These little things—these humble stuffed pups—are reminders that small acts of kindness can be the biggest blessings of all.
