Kick It Past GPS…What?

Aug 23, 2026 | Blog

Mom had this sign when her cancer came back for round two, and she wanted me to take a picture so I would always remember her advice:

Don’t just think outside the box. LIVE outside the box.

Actually, Mom’s philosophy was more like: Kick that thing so far away that if you ever decide you want it back, even GPS says, “Destination not found. You’re on your own.”

And Mom didn’t just say it. She lived it.

Cancer came back, and she wasn’t looking for a box to crawl into, close the flaps and throw herself a pity party. She knew cancer was hard. REALLY hard. But she also knew God was going to walk her through it.

Now, apparently Mom also knew her daughter.

Because SHE may not have wanted that box back, but I certainly have.

There have been seasons when I’ve thought:

Okay, where exactly did we kick that thing?

Because I am DONE growing today.
I have learned enough lessons.
My character is sufficiently developed.

I would now like my box, a blanket, snacks and absolutely no more opportunities for personal growth.

But thanks to Mom, the box is GONE.

And you know what I’ve learned out here?

God really does meet us here.

He teaches us here.
He gives us grace here.
He carries us through the hard. Even the REALLY hard.

Turns out the box was never the safe place anyway.

God is.

So if you’re currently searching for your own box, stop wasting your time.

Mom apparently kicked yours away too.

GPS has no idea where it is. 😂❤️
