He used to be the one in the wheelchair with her by his side.
There was a season when his body was weak and the days felt long. Getting out felt like a mountain. And that sweet girl never left him. She laid close to his chair. She followed him from room to room. She watched him with those steady eyes that said, I am right here.
She was his slice of normal in a season that felt anything but normal.
She helped carry him through in the quiet way dogs do.
No fixing.
No big speeches.
Just presence.
Just loyalty.
Just love.
And now it’s her turn.
Her legs do not work like they used to. The walks look different now. Slower. Assisted. But he refuses to let her world grow small.
He could have left her at home.He could have said it’s too hard.He could have said she wouldn’t know the difference.
But love knows the difference.
So now he is the one pushing. He lifts her gently into that wheelchair. He takes her down the same paths she once proudly walked beside him.
She still gets the breeze on her face.
She still gets the sunshine through the trees.
She still gets to be part of the world she once ran through.
And if we are honest, it gets him out too. It gives him purpose. It reminds him that love is a circle. What we give comes back around.
This is love in its most beautiful form.
Not flashy.
Not dramatic.
Just faithful.
Love that remembers.
Love that adapts.
Love that says, you carried me once. I will carry you now.
And if that doesn’t preach without saying a word, I don’t know what does. 💛
