Party Hats and Perspective

We had party hats in every room.
Not for birthdays or big events—but for the everyday.
Through Mom’s cancer battle and my own autoimmune journey, they became our gentle reminder that life—no matter how hard it gets—is still worth celebrating.

One really tough appointment, Mom even pulled out the disco wig.
Because sometimes, joy has to be loud on purpose.
Sometimes, you have to fight the darkness with laughter and a little sparkle.

Even on the hardest days—especially on the hardest days—we wore those party hats.
It might sound a little strange, but it worked.

Because when everything felt heavy… that little hat helped us lift our eyes.
It reminded us that just waking up was reason enough to celebrate.
A new day? That’s a celebration.
A breath in our lungs? Celebration.
Hope peeking through even the darkest moment? Oh yes—celebration.

It’s so easy to get caught in the noise and the weight of life.
The world shouts, pulls, distracts… and before we know it, we’ve forgotten how to laugh. Forgotten to find the wonder. Forgotten the party hat.

I still have the hat my mom wore to chemo appointments.
Every time I see it, I hear her voice in my heart:
“Celebrate. Be grateful. Make thanksgiving your default.”

Because no matter how hard life gets, there is always—always—something to be thankful for.
Something worth pausing for.
Something worth putting on a party hat for.

So today, if life feels a little heavy… maybe it’s time to dig out your own version of a party hat.
Choose joy.
Look for wonder.
Celebrate the small things—because they’re really the big things.

After all, what better way to face the world than with a little gratitude on your heart… and a party hat on your head!
