I sat there at the longest red light of my life. Not today, I thought. I need green lights. I need to move forward. But instead, I hit every single red light in town. And with each stop, I had plenty of time to think, and tap on the wheel as if that would make it turn any faster.
Waiting has a way of testing me like nothing else. I wouldn’t say I love it, but I’ve learned to see it differently. It’s not just a pause—it’s a space where God does some of His best behind-the-scenes work. As I sat at yet another red light, drumming my fingers on the steering wheel, my frustration slowly turned to reflection.
I started thinking about the journeys God has taken me on—the times I begged for a green light, only to realize later that those red lights were actually gifts. They kept me from running ahead when I wasn’t ready. They protected me from roads I wasn’t meant to take. And they made me
pause long enough to see God’s hand at work.
And then something happened as I impatiently tapped that steering wheel—instead of frustration, I felt gratitude. I actually thanked God for those red lights.
Because while I saw delays, He saw preparation. While I saw detours, He saw direction.
Abraham waited for a promised son. Joseph waited in a prison cell. Moses waited in the wilderness. David waited for a throne. Their waiting wasn’t pointless—it was necessary. Every long pause was shaping them for something bigger than they could imagine. The same is true for us. Waiting isn’t just about sitting still—
it’s about trusting that God is moving, even when we can’t see it. It’s an invitation to lean into His goodness today and trust His faithfulness for tomorrow. There is always something happening while it feels like nothing is happening.
And when the soon finally becomes now? Oh, friend, you’ll see—God’s timing wasn’t just right. It was better than you ever dreamed.
So if you’re stuck at a red light today, don’t stress. Turn up your favorite music, take a deep breath, and trust the process. The green light will come. And when it does, get ready—because you’ll be stepping into something far greater than you ever imagined.
