It’s been such a joy to read to kids this month and share my new book about Moose, with Moose right there beside me! (In his quiet Moose way, of course.) 🐾
As I sat there reading, I couldn’t help but think my mom was up in heaven reading right along with me.
She was a teacher who loved children with all her heart. She’s one of the reasons our nonprofit includes kids in such a big way, and that part of our ministry continues to grow every year. I know she’d love that.
This month, I’ve met some of the most incredible teachers, staff, and students. Their laughter, kindness, and joy reminded me of something so important, my why.
Let’s be honest, in the nonprofit world, or really any calling that involves pouring your heart out, it’s easy to forget. Between the planning, fundraising, spreadsheets, and long days, sometimes the “why” gets buried under the “what.” (I can see my nonprofit friends nodding right now!)
But here’s what I’m learning:
Your “why” doesn’t always shout, sometimes it whispers. It’s in the quiet moments, the little smiles, the simple acts of love that remind you you’re right where you’re meant to be.
And your “why” can grow and change too. God refines it as He refines us. What once looked like a dream can become something deeper,
something rooted in love that keeps going long after the applause fades.
When you’re weary, remember this, the same God who called you is still carrying you. He hasn’t forgotten your purpose, even on the days you momentarily do.
So take a deep breath.
Think about your why.
Count the blessings that got you started.
And listen for that still, small whisper reminding you that what you do matters — more than you know.
Because sometimes, all it takes is reading a book to a child, and seeing their eyes light up, to remember exactly why you began in the first place. 💖
