The Beauty in the Breaking: Lessons from Kintsugi

Apr 27, 2025 | Blog

Kintsugi.
It’s the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by filling the cracks with gold.
They don’t try to hide the brokenness — they honor it.
They make the cracks part of the story.
Part of the beauty.

I have Kintsugi pottery all over my house.
This is one of my favorite pieces.
Many of you have heard me share about it — because it holds such a deep place in my heart.

I see so much of God’s heart in it too.
We bring Him the shattered pieces — the heartaches, the losses, the regrets — and in His hands, they don’t get tossed aside.
They get restored.
Not hidden.
Not erased.
But redeemed.

The places we thought disqualified us?
He fills with grace.
The scars we wanted to forget?
He turns into art.

And somehow, in ways only He can,
the broken places become the very places where His light shines through the brightest.

You are not ruined.
You are being remade.

There’s beauty in the breaking.
There’s gold in the cracks.
And there’s a God who knows exactly how to piece you back together — into something even stronger, even more breathtaking than before. ✨
