The fence that found its wings

Every morning on my walk when I pass this fence, I slow down just a little. It’s become part of my routine — a moment of pause between the hurry of the day and the quiet reminder that beauty often grows where we least expect it.

When I first noticed the ivy, it was just beginning its climb, small and scattered across the old wooden boards. But over time, something remarkable began to happen. The vines stretched and curved, weaving themselves into what now looks like a pair of angel wings — wide, graceful, and strong.

Each day, I’ve watched them grow, curling upward toward the light. And somewhere along the way, they became more than just plants. They became a message.

I’ve thought often about how those wings reflect life itself. Growth doesn’t happen all at once — it’s slow, quiet, and sometimes unnoticed. The days we feel stuck or hidden are often the very days God is shaping something beautiful in us. The ivy didn’t set out to become wings, but it did what it was created to do — reach, cling, and grow toward the sun. And in doing that, it became a picture of grace.

Now when I pass by, I can’t help but smile. It feels like a whisper from Heaven — a reminder that angels are near, that hope is still alive, and that even on ordinary fences, God paints extraordinary things.

Sometimes, we just have to keep showing up. Keep growing. Keep trusting that what looks like tangled vines today might one day become wings.

And on the days when we forget, it helps to stop and look up — because His handiwork is always climbing higher than we can see.
