The Hands That Still Hold Me

May 9, 2026 | Blog

Mother’s Day has a way of stirring up all the things.

The gratitude.
The memories.
The ache.
The love that never really leaves.

It’s hard to believe my mom has been gone since 2013. Some days it feels like forever ago, and other days it feels like I could still pick up the phone and hear her voice.

I still catch myself thinking, “I need to tell Mom this.”

And then my heart remembers all over again.

What I wouldn’t give for one more hug. One more kitchen table conversation. One more “It’s going to be okay.” One more laugh until we cried.

But even though she’s gone, I see her everywhere.

I see her in the way I love people.
I see her in the care boxes, the prayers, the hugs, and the showing up.

Her fingerprints are all over Lisa Bain Ministries.

She taught me that people need more than advice. They need comfort. They need kindness. They need someone willing to sit beside people in hard places and remind them they are not alone.

She taught me that the small things are actually the big things.

A card.
A meal.
A visit.
A moment that says, “I see you.”

I think about my grandma too, and the beautiful relationship she and my mom shared. There was such love and tenderness between them. And one of the greatest honors of our lives was being with my sweet Mother in Law Jackie when she met Jesus.

What a sacred moment that was.

This Mother’s Day, I’m also so thankful for my sweet stepmom, Pat, who has loved our family and loved my Dad so well.  She was a gift to our family.

And one of my favorite things in the world now is watching my daughter be a mom.

Sometimes I just sit back and watch the tenderness, the patience, and the fierce love she has for her babies, and it melts my heart every single time.

It feels like generations of love all holding hands together somehow.

My mom poured love into me.
Now I watch that love being poured into another generation.

What a gift.

Maybe that’s the beautiful thing about a mother’s love.

It never really leaves us.

It becomes part of who we are.
Part of how we love.
Part of how we comfort others.
Part of the way we keep showing up for people.

And when I watch my daughter love her boys, or see a hurting person hugged through one of our ministry visits, I realize something…

My mom’s hands may no longer be here physically, but the love she placed into this world still is.

Still reaching.
Still comforting.
Still holding people together in a thousand little ways.

And somehow, through all of that… she’s still holding me too.

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers who are here, the mothers we miss deeply, the grandmothers who helped shape us, the women who stepped in and loved us well, and the daughters now carrying that love forward into another generation.

What a beautiful gift that is. ❤️
