The Sacred In Between

Dec 28, 2025 | Blog

There’s a week every year that feels different—the week between Christmas and the New Year. The decorations are still up, but the noise has faded. The calendar feels wide open. The world exhales.

It’s the in between.

Every morning, when I sit in my little chair in my prayer closet, Mabel curled up beside me, my eyes land on the same thing—my vision board. It’s big and colorful, filled edge to edge with pictures. Dreams. Prayers. Hopes. Promises. Some brand new. Some that have been there a long, long time. As I looked at it this week, something shifted in me. I realized how many of those pictures once lived only in my heart. At the time, they felt far away—almost impossible.

Just whispered prayers offered through tears. And yet…God showed up. Slowly. Faithfully. In ways I never could have orchestrated.

But what struck me even more was this:
The most meaningful parts weren’t the pictures that came true.
They were the spaces between them.

The waiting.
The crying out.
The mornings when I sat in that same chair and said, “God, I don’t know how to do this.”
The seasons when the answers didn’t come quickly—or clearly.

Waiting can be painful.
It can feel lonely.
It can stir up every what-if and worst-case scenario if we let it.

We’ve all been there.
God, are You there?
Do You see this?
Are You listening?

And yet, looking back now, I can see it so clearly.
He was always there, especially in the quiet.

Those in-between moments were where God did some of His deepest work.
He was growing my faith.

Stretching my trust.
Strengthening me in broken places.
Teaching me how to hear His voice more clearly.

As I studied each picture on that board, I smiled—and wiped away a few tears. So many prayers answered. Most not in the way I expected, but better. God is really good at that.

The answers were beautiful.

But what I learned in between was miraculous.

Truth was revealed there.
Friendships were refined there.
Purpose was reshaped there.
New seasons were quietly being formed there.

The longer I live, the more I realize this truth:
The journey is the miracle.

What we learn on the way to the answer matters just as much—maybe more—than the answer itself. It’s what allows us to receive the blessing with gratitude, humility, and deeper faith.

So I wonder…
Are you in an in-between season right now?

Standing on the edge of a new year with unanswered questions?
Facing change, transition, or uncertainty as 2026 approaches?
Wondering what to do with the new that’s in front of you?

Jesus understands the in between better than anyone.

Before the cross, He waited.
He wrestled.
He sweat drops of blood.

He knows anguish.
He knows heartbreak.
And He knows yours—intimately.

If your in between has you hanging on by one hand, exhausted and afraid to let go, hear this:
God’s hand is underneath you.

You are not forgotten.
You are not behind.
You are not failing.

Be held.
Be carried.
Be loved.

Rest here.
Breathe here.

What God is shaping in you during this season could not be learned anywhere else. And when the answer comes—and it will—it will be clearer, deeper, and more beautiful than you imagine.

As we step toward a new year filled with change, transition, and unknowns, remember this:

He’s got you.

Even here.
Especially here.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”
Ephesians 3:20

The in between is not wasted.

It is sacred.

And you are right where God can meet you.
