I pulled over to the side of the road because the tears were falling so fast I could hardly breathe.
I wanted to pray one of those long prayers that sounds beautiful and reaches heaven with all the right words. Something thoughtful. Something strong. Something worthy of the moment.
But through the tears, all I could manage were three simple words.
Jesus, help me.
And in that moment I realized something. That was all the prayer I needed.
Sometimes we think our prayers have to be eloquent. That we have to find just the right words for God to hear us. But God is not listening for perfect sentences. He is listening for the heart. Sometimes the most powerful prayer is simply a heart crying out.
Jesus, help.
And He knows.
The past few days had been full of twists and turns that I could not make sense of. Doors closing when I thought we were finally getting somewhere. Situations that felt confusing, discouraging, and honestly pretty heartbreaking. Nothing seemed to be lining up.But what I could not see in that moment was that God was already moving. Quietly redirecting things. Quietly guiding us. Quietly protecting us.And when everything finally settled into place, I could see it so clearly.
Those closed doors had actually led us exactly where we were supposed to be all along.
In the moment, those closed doors felt frustrating and even painful. But in hindsight, they were mercy. Sometimes the door that shuts is not rejection. It is protection.
Sometimes the roadblock is not God ignoring you. It is God steering the ship.
We often pray for open doors, but we forget that the closed ones are just as important. Because the wrong door can lead you somewhere that was never meant for you. And the right one may only open after several others have closed.
I think about how many times in life we grieve things being taken away. Opportunities that disappear. Plans that fall apart. Paths that suddenly end.
But what if those moments are not loss at all? What if they are love? What if God, in His kindness, is quietly shutting the doors that would take us somewhere we were never meant to go, while guiding us toward the place that will finally bring the answer we need?
Sometimes it takes a desperate prayer on the side of the road to remember that.
Jesus, help.
And somehow, He always does. Just at the perfect time.
