When God Hands You a Goliath

I’ve been thinking a lot about this image, little David staring up at the giant who stood between him and his destiny. It’s funny, isn’t it? When God wanted to make a king out of David, He didn’t hand him a crown. He handed him a challenge that looked impossible.

Goliath wasn’t a punishment.
He wasn’t a delay.
He wasn’t even the real enemy.

He was the doorway.

And I think sometimes the Goliaths we face, diagnoses, heartbreaks, financial burdens, disappointments, losses that knock the wind right out of us, feel like roadblocks. But what if they’re actually invitations? What if they’re the very thing God is using to prepare us for the places He’s calling us to?

David didn’t become strong in the palace.
He became strong in the field with lions, with bears, with battles nobody saw.
He learned courage long before anyone applauded it.

And when Goliath finally stood in front of him, David wasn’t unprepared. He was ready.

Maybe that’s you right now.
Maybe you’re standing in front of something that looks bigger than your ability, your resources, your strength, or your understanding. Maybe you’ve whispered, “God, are You sure? This giant is too much for me.”

But here’s what I’ve learned in my own story.
If He allowed the Goliath, He is positioning you for purpose.
Not to break you but to build you.
Not to shame you but to shape you.
Not to overwhelm you but to reveal what He’s already placed inside you.

Giants have a way of showing us our strength.
They uncover grit we didn’t know we had.
They draw out faith we didn’t know we could stand on.
They push us into the arms of a God who never once intended us to fight alone.

And just like David, your victory won’t come from having all the right armor. It will come from trusting the God who already sees you as more than capable.

So if you are facing something towering over your peace, your joy, or your hope today, take heart. You are not standing in front of a giant, you are standing on the edge of promotion. God is preparing you, strengthening you, and equipping you for the next chapter of your calling.

Your Goliath may feel heavy, but so is your anointing.
And the God who brought David through the valley will bring you through yours.

Your challenges are not detours.
They are preparation for your purpose.

And friend, that purpose is worth every step.
