There are times when the silence feels almost deafening. You pray your heart out, but it feels like the words drop to the floor. You wait, and nothing stirs. You wonder, Lord, are You there? Did You forget me?
I’ve sat in that silence. Maybe you have too.
Here’s what I’ve learned through some of the hardest seasons of my life: God’s silence is not His absence. In fact, that stillness often means He’s up to something. He’s preparing. He’s getting ready to reveal. And here’s something I’ve come to believe deep in my soul—God trusts us with His silence.
I think about Lazarus. When word was sent that Lazarus was sick, Jesus didn’t rush there. He stayed where He was. Can you imagine what that silence felt like to Mary and Martha? Their brother was dying, and the One they believed could heal him didn’t show up—at least not when they wanted Him to.
But Jesus hadn’t forgotten. That silence wasn’t abandonment—it was preparation for something far greater. A resurrection. A miracle no one expected. The delay was the doorway to God’s glory.
That’s the way silence works. It feels crushing, but it’s actually sacred. Like a seed hidden deep in the soil. From the outside it looks like nothing is happening, but underground roots are growing strong. Life is forming.
I’ll never forget sitting in a hospital waiting room, praying for results I wasn’t sure I could handle. The clock ticked so loud it almost mocked me. I begged God to just say something—anything. But there was nothing.
And yet… He was there. Not in words, but in a peace that wrapped around me when I thought I’d fall apart. His silence wasn’t Him stepping away
—it was Him sitting closer than my own breath.
Looking back now, I see it so clearly. That silence wasn’t wasted time—it was holy ground. God was preparing me. And when His answer came, when the reveal unfolded, it was powerful. Sometimes the reveal looks like the miracle we’ve been praying for. Other times it’s the strength to walk through the valley and not give up. Either way, His silence always has a purpose.
So if you’re in that quiet place right now, don’t lose hope. You are not forgotten. The seed is still under the soil. Roots are still growing. He is still working, even if you can’t hear Him.
God trusts you with His silence—because He knows the reveal will be worth the wait. And when it comes, it will take your breath away.
Don’t give up!
