When Leadership Feels Like Free-fall

Jun 29, 2026 | Blog

There’s something about this photo (thanks, ChatGPT!) that feels like the perfect metaphor for what we’re doing together.

Five women jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

Not polished.
Not pretending to have it all together.
Not standing safely on the ground talking about dreams.

Actually jumping.

Leadership and nonprofit work feel a lot like that some days.

You leap before you know where the provision is coming from.
You trust while the wind is loud.
You carry stories that break your heart.
You pour into everyone else while trying to hold yourself together.

Some days are exhilarating.
Some are terrifying.
Most are both.

But here’s what I’ve learned sitting in this mastermind with these incredible women: freefall is a lot less scary when you know you’re not falling alone.

Jennifer, our fearless leader, may have led this jump, but what she’s really created is something even more valuable… trust.

A place where leaders can be honest.
Where wisdom is shared freely.
Where no one is competing.
Where faith, laughter, tears, burnout, vision, and big dreams all have a seat at the table.

As nonprofit founders, we spend so much of our lives carrying everyone else that we sometimes forget leaders need people who will carry them, too.

This group has reminded me that growth often looks like freefall.
Messy.
Stretching.
Uncomfortable.
Beautiful.

And maybe that’s where the miracle happens. Not when we have everything figured out, but when we’re willing to jump anyway.

Or maybe more accurately…

Four women freefalling while one brave woman reminds us we were made to fly.

If your trust has ever been wounded, I understand.

It took me a long time to say yes to this mastermind because I wasn’t sure I wanted to trust again. Past experiences have a way of making you question future opportunities. I’m so thankful I took the leap.

Jennifer has created something rare. She has created a place where leaders can be real, be challenged, be encouraged, and simply be safe. She’s the real deal.

If you’re looking for a leader who will encourage you, pray with you, challenge you, and remind you that you were made to fly, I hope you’ll check out Jennifer Edwards webpage and the many groups she offers. Just head to https://jenniferedwards.co
