When the Storm Becomes the Story That Heals

Jun 25, 2025 | Blog

I’ve come to believe something with all my heart:
God doesn’t waste storms.

I used to think the hardest seasons in life were detours—unexpected disruptions that left me bruised, breathless, and wondering where God went. But over time, I started to see them differently.

Because it turns out, what felt like a breaking was actually a becoming.

The pain? It taught me compassion.
The waiting? It taught me patience.
The heartbreak? It taught me how to sit beside someone in theirs without needing to fix it.

And now, when I find myself in the presence of someone walking through something hard, I can offer more than sympathy. I can offer understanding.

Not because I have the answers—
but because I’ve been in the storm too.

I’ve stood in hospital rooms.
I’ve waited on calls that didn’t come.
I’ve had days when I couldn’t pray, so others prayed for me.
And I’ve learned to recognize that look in someone’s eyes—the quiet, worn-out kind of hurt that says, “I don’t know how to do this.”

And I get it.
Because I didn’t know either.

But here’s the thing about storms:
God doesn’t just bring you through them—He equips you in them.

What you thought was going to take you out?
God will use to lift someone else up.

What you learned in the dark will help someone find light.
What broke your heart might help heal someone else’s.
And the words you now speak with tenderness and truth? They were formed in the fire.

So if you’re still in your storm, hold on.
And if you’ve made it through one, don’t be afraid to tell your story.

Because someone out there needs to hear it.

And when they do, they’ll realize they’re not alone.
They’ll see hope—because you showed up with what you learned in the storm…
and that might just be the thing that carries them through theirs.
