When Your Spirit Is Tired, Your Faith Isn’t Broken

Some days, faith feels easy. You can see God working, you feel hopeful, and you just know everything is going to be okay.

And then there are the other days.

The days when your heart is heavy. When you’re tired in a way sleep can’t fix. When you pray and don’t even know what to say anymore. When you know all the right things in your head, but your heart is having a really hard time believing them.

I think sometimes we convince ourselves that if our faith were stronger, we wouldn’t feel this way. We should be more joyful. We should trust more. We should pray harder. We should be able to pull ourselves out of it.

But a tired spirit does not mean you have a weak faith.

Sometimes faith looks like getting up and trying one more day. Sometimes it looks like crying while you pray. Sometimes it looks like telling God, “I don’t understand any of this.” And sometimes faith is simply hanging on when you feel like you have nothing left to hang on with.

One of my favorite promises is Isaiah 43:2: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”

I love that it says when, not if.

We are going to have deep waters in this life. We are going to have seasons we never would have chosen. There will be heartbreak, disappointment, loss, loneliness, fear and times when God seems so quiet.

But quiet does not mean absent.

I have learned that some of the times when I thought God was the quietest, He was actually doing the most behind the scenes. I just couldn’t see it yet.

And when you’re in one of those dark places, please don’t disappear. I know how easy it is to pull away when you’re hurting. You don’t want to burden anyone. You don’t feel like talking. You tell yourself you’ll reach out when you feel better.

But we need each other.

Sometimes God sends hope through a friend who calls at exactly the right time. Sometimes it comes through someone who just sits beside you and doesn’t try to fix a thing. Sometimes it’s a text, a hug, a meal, a prayer, or simply someone saying, “I’m here.”

You don’t need a crowd. You just need your people. And if what you’re carrying is too heavy, please reach out for more help. There is absolutely no shame in talking to a counselor, doctor, pastor, or someone trained to help you through a difficult season. Asking for help does not mean your faith has failed. Sometimes asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do.

So if today feels heavy, please don’t decide what the rest of your story is going to look like based on this chapter.

You may not understand what God is doing right now. You may not feel strong. You may not even feel hopeful.

That’s okay.

Just keep reaching.

Reach for truth. Reach for your people. Reach for help. And most of all, keep reaching for God.

And if all you can pray today is “Help me,” I believe that prayer goes straight to God’s heart too.

You don’t need beautiful words. You don’t need to have it all together. You just need to keep showing up.

The water may feel really deep right now, but you are not walking through it alone.

God is there.

And sometimes, when we don’t have the strength to hold tightly to Him, we find out He has been holding onto us the whole time.
