The waves were crashing, the wind was howling, and I could practically hear the disciples shouting, “Jesus, wake up! Don’t You care that we’re drowning?!”
If you’ve ever felt that way, like life’s waves were about to take you under, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. In fact, sometimes it feels like my little boat has taken on more water than it can handle. But then I remember something: Jesus is in my boat.
That changes everything.
Because peace isn’t the absence of chaos. It’s not the calm seas, the perfect forecast, or a boat without leaks. Real peace is being smack dab in the middle of the storm and still being okay because you know Who’s with you.
And lately, I’ve learned something else about that boat.
Jesus doesn’t just sit quietly at the helm; He also handpicks the crew.
He sends people, your tribe, who grab an oar and start rowing right alongside you. The ones who pray with you, cry with you, bring coffee
when you can’t even find your keys, and remind you of who you are when you forget. They row hard. They row steady. They don’t drill holes.
Because let’s be honest, there will always be people who drill holes. People who doubt, discourage, or disappear when the waves rise. But then there’s that tribe that was heaven-sent, the ones who keep showing up with strength, laughter, and hope. Those are your rowers.
So, if your boat feels a little wobbly today, take a deep breath.
Look around. Jesus is still in your boat.
And check your crew. Make sure you’re surrounded by the ones who are rowing with you, not drilling holes beneath you.
Here’s to storms that build faith,
waves that reveal true friends,
and a peace that doesn’t depend on the weather.
