Wintertime (or: Why Nothing Is Wrong With You)

Jan 26, 2026 | Blog

Winter has a reputation problem.

It shows up cold, quiet, and a little dramatic. Trees look naked. Gardens look abandoned. Everyone is wearing seven layers and asking, “Why do I live where the air hurts my face?”

And somewhere in the middle of all that, we start thinking the same thing about ourselves.

Nothing is happening.
I must be behind.
Shouldn’t I be doing more?

But here’s the thing about winter. It’s not lazy. It’s sneaky.

Bears are napping on purpose. Birds packed up and left. Plants didn’t quit, they just went underground to mind their business and do important root work. Growth didn’t stop. It just got quieter.

Which honestly feels very relatable.

Winter seasons in life can look unproductive from the outside. Fewer wins. Less energy. More sweatpants. But just because you’re not blooming doesn’t mean you’re broken.

Roots are forming. Strength is building. Restoration is happening where no one can see it.

Spring gets all the credit because it’s flashy. Flowers show up like, “Look what I did!” But spring is completely dependent on winter doing its slow, boring, faithful work first.

No winter, no fruit. No roots, no blooms.

So if life feels a little frozen right now, take a breath. Drink something warm. Stop apologizing for needing rest. Winter is not a failure season. It’s a preparation season.

And when spring finally shows up, you’ll realize this quiet stretch wasn’t wasted at all.

It was working on you the whole time.
