35 years ago I was finishing my college internship for my social work degree. I was placed at a residential facility treatment center for girls, and fell in love with what I was doing. I had found my purpose. I will never forget sitting in one of the homes after counseling with one of the girls, closing my eyes and asking the Lord to let this one day be what I was doing, helping young girls find their purpose, and learn to walk through the broken places in life to find healing and hope.
I could not hold back the tears today as I sat in that very same house, in that very same room sharing with young girls who know that feeling of brokenness quite well. God brought me full circle, and through the broken places in my own life, led me right here, answering the prayer I prayed 34 years ago, in the same house, but with the name Flourish Homes.
I told my husband on the way home as I wiped many happy tears, “I would go through all the broken places that led me to Lisa Bain Ministries all over again to be right here seeing all that God is unfolding.” Seeing God’s handprints on every second of every day is what it is all about. God knew what He was doing. Sometimes what we think are broken places are really divine appointments, God showing up to answer our prayer. Even those prayers we prayed 35 years ago. I love these girls. I love this team. I am thankful Lisa Bain Ministries has the honor to work with Flourish Homes. Their mission is to provide a Christian home for vulnerable young women to receive emotional and spiritual healing while equipping them with life skills and education so they can flourish.
Today Lisa Bain Ministries delivered duffel bags filled to the brim with items to bring hope and joy to these precious young ladies. Every item had a story, and I was thrilled to share those stories of every person and story that made it possible. We were thrilled to also deliver boxes and boxes of brand new shoes thanks to a very special donor. Flourish. What a great word. The definition is “to grow well or luxuriantly; thrive. To prosper and be in a period of highest productivity, excellence, or influence. The other side of broken, is exactly this definition. I am thankful for this day. I am thankful that 35 years ago God new this day would be on the other side of broken and it was time to flourish. Thank you Beth Reinwald and Rhonda McDaniel for your heart to lead this beautiful organization, and for the entire Flourish team. And to the sponsors, donors, and volunteers, these photos say it all. Thank you for making these moments happen. We could not do it without you.
My heart is full.
