Today as we get ready to attend our Palm Sunday service at our church, my heart is full and in deep reflection. I can only imagine this day 2000 years ago. Jesus knew. He did not enter the holy city of Jerusalem on a mighty war horse, but entered humbly on a donkey. He knew that he was surrounded by murderers, yet He came in such peace, and by His sacrifice would utterly conquer death before the week had passed.
Jesus didn’t dispute the great festive celebration, or joyful praises offered to God by the crowds with their palm branches. The cheers from the crowds in Jerusalem, including Jesus’ disciples, had no idea what was coming, but Jesus did. All the way to the cross.
I think this quote by Max Lucado says it all. “Nails did not hold Jesus to the cross. Love did. The sinless one took on the face of a sinner, so we sinners could take on the face of a saint”.
He knew. And He went to the cross anyway.
