I still remember the day Mom and I sang the hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus as we drove to chemotherapy. It wasn’t just a song to her—it was her anthem, a declaration of faith in the middle of uncertainty. Later, when she shared her dream to begin what would become Lisa Bain Ministries, she sang it again, her voice steady with conviction and hope.
Today, as I look at the month ahead and see the vast needs in our community—the broken places, the hurting hearts—I hear her voice once more, as though she were still here, softly singing:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Her words echo a truth that feels just as real today as it did then: God has this. He’s never left the battle unfought or the promise unfulfilled.
One line in the hymn always stands out to me:
His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well.
It’s such a simple call: trust Him, turn to Him, and let the weight of the world rest in His hands. And yet, in the swirl of life, it’s easy to forget. But this hymn, written by Helen Lemmel in the early 20th century, has a way of bringing clarity.
It reminds me that perspective changes everything. When we turn our eyes upon Jesus, we stop staring at the storm and start focusing on the Savior. The overwhelming needs, the challenges, the questions—they all fade in the light of His glory and grace.
Today, I’m reminded that He already has the answer. Whatever battle you’re facing, He’s already gone before you. Our job is simply to give it to Him, trust Him, and believe in the promises He’s made.
There’s something transformative about that moment when we realize the battle is His—not ours. Suddenly, everything else comes into proper perspective.
Mom didn’t just know this truth; she lived it. Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus wasn’t just a song she sang—it was the faith she leaned on every single day. As we step into our busiest month of the year with the most care requests we’ve ever received, the vastness of the need can feel overwhelming. At times, I wonder how it will all get done. But as that familiar melody plays in my heart, I’m reminded that God already has the plan. He’s one step ahead, making a way where I cannot see, holding me—and every need in this community—in His capable hands.
Turn your eyes upon Him today. He’s got this. And He’s got you
This song is on repeat today. Enjoy! Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus by Jadon Lavik
